Tissue Engineering & Space Medicine

PULSE Space Week 2026

24 – 27 August 2026

13:00 – 14:00 CEST

Four new lectures on space medicine and tissue engineering

Following the success of the 2025 PULSE Online Summer School, we invited students, early-career researchers and professionals to join the PULSE Space Summer Week 2026.

From 24 to 27 August 2026, four leading experts delivered online lectures exploring current developments in space biology, space medicine and bioprinting. Three speakers from last year’s Summer School returned with updated perspectives on their fields, while a new lecture further expanded the programme.

All sessions took place online at 13:00 CEST. Participation was free, and attendees could register for one or more lectures.

PULSE Summer School 2025

25–29 August 2025

The PULSE Online Summer School received over 500 students, early-career researchers, and professionals to explore the world of tissue engineering and space medicine. This unique program highlights how biomedical research for space not only supports human space exploration but also drives innovations for medicine on Earth.

Participants had a chance to:

  • Discover how human tissues respond to microgravity, radiation, and isolation;
  • Learn about organ-specific adaptations, including muscle, bone, immune, cardiovascular, and reproductive systems;
  • Gain insights into innovative biofabrication and 3D bioprinting technologies;
  • Explore career opportunities with the European Space Agency (ESA) and other space life sciences initiatives.

Program Overview

The Summer School ran over five days, featuring expert lectures, interactive sessions, and career-oriented presentations.

Highlights includes:

  • Space Medicine: Physiological responses in space, covering multiple organ systems such as muscle, bone, immune, cardiovascular, and reproductive systems;
  • Radiation and bioengineering in space: Talks on radiation resistance, biofabrication modules on the ISS, magnetic acoustic levitation bioprinting, and hydrogel applications for biotechnology;
  • ESA programs and career opportunities for students and early-career researchers.
