Lena Nieke shares her research with the global gravitational physiology community

Lena Nieke, a Master’s student from the University of Rotterdam’s Department of Microgravity and Translational Regenerative Medicine, presented her research at the Annual International Society for Gravitational Physiology Meeting in Sapporo, Japan.

The five-day conference, held from May 18-23, brought together researchers from around the world to share the latest advances in gravitational physiology. For Lena, it was a valuable opportunity to present her work on how heart cells behave differently in microgravity conditions.

In her presentation “Spinning Heart: Extracellular Matrix Remodeling Under Simulated Microgravity,” Lena talked about her work on the PULSE project to an international audience of space medicine experts.

As the project progresses toward its goal of creating more sophisticated cardiac tissue models, early-career researchers like Lena are ensuring that the work reaches and influences the broader international scientific community.
